The Horns Tavern (date not known)

On Kennington Road opposite the modern day Post Office at the junction with Kennington Park Road was the famous "Horns Tavern". This tavern and assembly rooms stood at the junction of the roads leading to London and Westminster Bridges. Not only was it a place of drinking and entertainment but it also acted as a good meeting place and as a lecture hall and exhibition space. The court of the Manor of Kennington met here in the eighteenth century and Surrey Cricket Club was founded here in the nineteenth century. The building was rebuilt in 1887. I suffered bomb damage during WWII and the remaining building was demolished in the 1960s.
